Off the Eaten Path

Food, family travel, and real life served with a side of sarcasm, snacks, sips and strong opinions. What began as a little hobby fueled by burgers and curiosity has turned into a delicious adventure — now packed with family-friendly travel adventures and easy entertaining ideas and recipes. A little about me: I love the beach, craft beer, Mexican food, my kids and cats, and trashy reality TV. I hope this blog gives you a little laugh, a lot of good food tips, and maybe even an idea for your next North Carolina adventure.

Ok, but if you want to get her something physical, I’m here to help! (PS: This is your reminder that Mother’s Day is May 9, so order now!) Here’s a list of things that moms actually want, but also maybe let her have a nap, too. For the mom who is always the family photographer: A family session with a local...

If you’re reading this right now, we are waking up in paradise (sorry to make you jealous). We left Charlotte at an ungodly hour yesterday morning to fly to visit my sister in Hawaii, and we will be exploring and enjoying our time in the tropics for the next 10 days. This is our second visit to Hawaii with the kids, and they were such troopers on the...

It’s me, you’re old pal the Easter Bunny, reporting to you live a week before Easter from my kitchen table with a cup of cold coffee that I have already reheated 4 times. My two tiny roommates have been yelling at me since the crack of dawn, but I’ve stolen a few moments to myself to help you get prepped for Easter, which is next week! Easter is a busy job—there are eggs...

Summer isn’t officially here yet, but its basically around the corner (time flies when you’re having fun am I right?), and mentally I’m already on a beach somewhere. We are headed out of town for a little coastal escape this weekend. We’re going to Hunting Island State Park, a barrier island about 15 miles east of Beaufort, SC and one of our favorite beach escapes from...

After (almost) 13 years of blogging, Off the Eaten Path has gotten a glow up thanks to my incredibly talented friend Susannah! I would love for you to head over and take a look, click around and tell me what you think! Thanks to Suze, this is the first time Off the Eaten Path has ever had a custom design and the functionality I envisioned when I sat down to write my...

This week’s newsletter is a “brain dump,” like we are sitting together at my kitchen table or our favorite restaurant catching up with a coffee or cocktail in hand, and we are both unloading our brains. Just a free flow of information that I’ve been thinking about that I want to share with my internet friends! Some things on my mind, which is a mix of post-Olympics...

Links in bold are affiliate links, so I may receive a commission if you click and/or purchase. Hi Reader, and happy Friday! Off the Eaten Path started with a pretty simple mission: eat my way through Charlotte. But the truth is, when I moved here thirteen years ago, it wasn’t just about food.I was 25, fresh out of a relationship, in my very first adult job, and suddenly living in a city where I didn’t know many people. Everything felt new and unfamiliar, and if I’m honest, I was lonely and...

Your next destination depends on it. Who else remembers picking up a stack of teen magazines at the local drugstore and then spending hours sprawled on the bed—thumbing through photos and articles of boy bands, carefully cutting out photos for your bedroom walls and locker, and taking quizzes that promised to...

Even at 39, I remain one of those deeply committed people who believes birthdays deserve at least a week of celebration. Thankfully, AJ and the kids fully indulge me, and we love to make birthdays a big deal in our house! I kicked things off earlier this week with some much-needed self-care: a massage followed by a blissful 30-minute sauna...

I wanted to take a moment to say hi and re-introduce myself; whether you’re new here or have been sticking with me on my little corner of the internet for the past 13 years, I’m happy you’re here. Midway through 2025, I rededicated myself to this online space, and part of that rededication is firing up this email list again! I’m hoping these weekend messages are a way...
