Ok, but if you want to get her something physical, I’m here to help! (PS: This is your reminder that Mother’s Day is May 9, so order now!) Here’s a list of things that moms actually want, but also maybe let her have a nap, too. For the mom who is always the family photographer:A family session with a local photographer so she can actually be in the photos. We have done family photos with Jessica Horton Photography and Julia Fay Photography in Charlotte, and would recommend them! For the mom who loves to read but feels like she doesn't have time:An Audible subscription or a prepaid Libro.fm credit. I have loved listening to an audiobook when I’m driving to and from work and doing mindless chores like laundry or dishes. If she needs some book recommendations, I would download Yesteryear, Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage, Great Big Beautiful Life, and Casey Wilson’s memoir The Wreckage of My Presence (it was so funny). I also loved listening to The Office BFFs by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey and Lisa Rinna’s memoir, too (if you have a reality tv fan on your hands). For the mom who wants self care:A massage. Locally I go to Mood House, which has a monthly subscription-based membership. They also have amazing spa items and the most beautiful smelling candles, so you could get her a membership and a gift box. If you aren’t local, pick her up a candle, a silk or weighted sleep mask (this is how I go to bed now, I love my weighted sleep mask) and some magnesium body butter to help her relax. And round out your little self care gift basket with a new water bottle (I love the Lilly Pulitzer collaboration at Target), some perfume, and maybe a gift card for a pedicure. For the foodie mom:Make a brunch reservation! We have a guide to the best brunch in Charlotte, and several of our favorite Charlotte restaurants are hosting Mother’s Day brunches. We’ve also celebrated the last few years at Rosie’s Wine Garden, which is on our Charlotte’s best patios list. If you’re opting for breakfast in bed, check out my breakfast and brunch recipes. And maybe she wants a Bloody Mary or a bellini too? You can also make her a dinner reservation for her and some friends, get her a gift card for a girls night, or treat her to dinner with no planning needed on her end. Happy planning! Mother’s Day is May 9 and she wants to sleep in! -Chrissie |
Food, family travel, and real life served with a side of sarcasm, snacks, sips and strong opinions. What began as a little hobby fueled by burgers and curiosity has turned into a delicious adventure — now packed with family-friendly travel adventures and easy entertaining ideas and recipes. A little about me: I love the beach, craft beer, Mexican food, my kids and cats, and trashy reality TV. I hope this blog gives you a little laugh, a lot of good food tips, and maybe even an idea for your next North Carolina adventure.

If you’re reading this right now, we are waking up in paradise (sorry to make you jealous). We left Charlotte at an ungodly hour yesterday morning to fly to visit my sister in Hawaii, and we will be exploring and enjoying our time in the tropics for the next 10 days. This is our second visit to Hawaii with the kids, and they were such troopers on the...

It’s me, you’re old pal the Easter Bunny, reporting to you live a week before Easter from my kitchen table with a cup of cold coffee that I have already reheated 4 times. My two tiny roommates have been yelling at me since the crack of dawn, but I’ve stolen a few moments to myself to help you get prepped for Easter, which is next week! Easter is a busy job—there are eggs...

Summer isn’t officially here yet, but its basically around the corner (time flies when you’re having fun am I right?), and mentally I’m already on a beach somewhere. We are headed out of town for a little coastal escape this weekend. We’re going to Hunting Island State Park, a barrier island about 15 miles east of Beaufort, SC and one of our favorite beach escapes from...
